PADI Rescue Diver

Many scuba divers describe the PADI Rescue Diver course as one of the most challenging, yet most rewarding course they've ever taken. Why? Because you learn to prevent and manage problems in the water, and become more confident in your skills as a diver, knowing that you can help others if needed. During the course, you learn to become a better buddy by practising problem solving skills until they become second nature. Plus, the course is just fun - it's serious, but still allows for lots of laughter in between the focused learning.

What will I do?

Knowledge Development

The PADI Rescue Diver course prepares you to deal with both minor and major dive emergencies, using a variety of techniques. During the classroom session, you will develop your knowledge about medical emergencies and how to deal with them in the unlikely event you should ever encounter one while diving. You will spend time discussing self rescue techniques introduced during your entry level training and learn how to develop these into rescue skills. Furthermore, you will gain understanding in how to recognise and manage stress and panic in other divers, emergency management, equipment and scene management. This will ensure you understand the why and how for the skill development section of the course.

Confined & Open Water Dives

Scuba Leeds believe that the PADI Rescue Diver course is pivotal in a diver's development. Therefore, we allow all our students plenty of time to develop their skills through rescue exercises, learn what to look for and how to respond. During rescue scenarios, you put into practice your knowledge and skills. Topics include:

  • Self rescue
  • Recognising and managing stress in other divers
  • Emergency management and equipment
  • Rescuing panicked divers
  • Rescuing unresponsive divers

To certify as a PADI Rescue Diver you must:

  • Complete five knowledge development segments and exam.
  • Demonstrate skills from the Self-Rescue Review either in confined or open water.
  • Demonstrate skills from Rescue Exercises 1-10 in open water.
  • Participate in Rescue Scenarios 1 and 2.
  • Prepare an emergency assistance plan for a dive site.

What scuba gear will I use?

As a certified diver we assume you will already own the basic dive gear of mask, snorkel and fins. If you don't already own this, our friendly staff will help you select gear that's right for you. Scuba Leeds will provide all your core scuba diving equipment during your PADI Rescue Diver course, including:

  • Buoyancy Device (BCD or Single Tank Wing)
  • Regulator (Standard or Long Hose Style)
  • Scuba Cylinder (12ltr or 15ltr Tall)
  • Integrated Weight System & Weights (As needed)

We offer the option for you to complete the PADI Rescue Diver in a drysuit. This option is only available to divers who have obtained the PADI Drysuit Specialty Certification.
