Photographers & Videographers
When a photographer or videographer is trying to get a shot of an awe-inspiring pelagic encounter of mantas at a cleaning station these are essential. Many times in these situations there are strong currents. The ability to safely steady yourself for the shot without damaging fragile aquatic ecosystems is essential. The Maldives, Palau and the Galapagos are some examples of where strong currents will likely mean amazing interactions. The Double Reef Hook is an ideal companion for stability in these environments.
Being able to secure your position in the water column while in strong currents is not just for the camera happy diver. Every diver, in the conditions mentioned, will require a reef hook to complete these dives safely. Simply hanging on to the reef is NOT an option. Thus choosing a reef hook with bolt snap and stainless steel double hooks is the solution.
How To Use It
Your task is to find a suitable anchor point, this is often a rock. Simply hook the reef hook in place, secure the bolt snap to your BCD/wing and slowly let yourself drift back to the extent of the line on the reef hook. Boom, hands-free drift dive! It is important to remember to clip the bolt snap in a position in the centre of your body, this will allow you to maintain a horizontal position. Twisting in the current because you clipped to one side of your BCD/Wing. For those of you using single tank wings, the crotch strap D-ring is one place to consider clipping to.
