PADI Open Water Diver
The PADI Open Water Diver is where it all begins. Have you always wanted to learn how to scuba dive and discover new adventures? Do you want to see the wondrous world beneath the waves? Then you are in the right place! The PADI Open Water Diver course is the world’s most popular scuba course. It has introduced millions of people to the adventurous diving lifestyle.
If you’ve tried diving through a PADI Discover Scuba Diving experience, the skills you learned may be credited towards a portion of the full Open Water Diver course certification. Furthermore if you have completed this with us here at Scuba Leeds within the last 4 weeks we will take your Discover Scuba Diving fee off your Open Water Diver course fee.
To certify as an Open Water Diver you will:
• Complete five knowledge development segments, including quizzes and final exam.
• Complete Confined Water (pool) Dives 1-5
• Meet water skills assessment requirements.
• Complete Open Water Dives 1-4
Knowledge Development
The theory is split into two sections and is designed to teach you the basic principles of scuba diving. You will cover basic dive theory, equipment, skills and dive planning. Knowledge development includes self-study and classroom based reviews with your PADI Instructor. This is also the time where you will practice assembling and disassembling your dive gear for the first time.
Confined Water Dives
You will make at least 5 confined water dives which will be completed in our two training pools. Your first dives will be in a shallow water pool with a sloping bottom. This helps you build your skills underwater in a safe and fun environment. Once you have completed the shallow pool dives we will take you to our 5.5m diver training pool. Your PADI Instructor will also orientate you on the use of a drysuit before making your open water dives.
Open Water Dives
You will make 4 open water dives where you will show your PADI Instructor that you have mastered all the skills and are now confident to complete them in actual diving situations. The maximum depth for your dives will be 12m (dive 1 & 2) and 18m (dive 3 & 4). You will dive at either Capernwray or Stoney Cove for these dives. When you book we will let you know the specific details regarding dates, times and locations.
