What is 100% AWARE?

What is Project AWARE?

Project AWARE is a global movement of scuba divers protecting our ocean planet – one dive at a time. Focused on the critical issues of Sharks and Rays in Peril and Marine Debris, Project AWARE empowers thousands to work together for a clean, healthy and abundant ocean planet.

What Part Do You Play In All of This?

Are you someone who has a passion for the ocean and everything within it? Do you take ocean protection to heart and do you want to ensure that the ocean and its wonders can be enjoyed not only by yourself but also by generations to come? If you’re learning to dive or looking to expand your dive education, completing your scuba diver training with Scuba Leeds will leave you safe in the knowledge that your choice of dive centre and instructor is in line with your own outlook and beliefs and is making an effort to support and protect the marine environment.

Being 100% AWARE

Scuba Leeds is one of only a handful of dive centres in the UK that are 100% AWARE. We decided to make this change in 2017 because we know that protecting the environment and the ocean is not a part-time activity. It needs daily support. Our goal is to train divers to the highest standards and to create divers who can interact, not negatively impact the ocean. As a 100% AWARE Centre we too become stewards of the ocean, supporting a clean, healthy ocean by making a contribution on behalf of each student to Project AWARE. As a Scuba Leeds student, you will receive the Project AWARE version of your PADI® certification card and be part of a movement of divers protecting our ocean planet. Our students will be reminded about the importance of protecting our oceans every time they look at their certification cards. Through being 100% AWARE, we hope to inspire a new generation of divers to participate in ocean and marine activities.

What Does My Contribution Support

As a 100% AWARE Partner we are contributing vital funds to protect the ocean planet and your support is paramount! Our donations are currently supporting the following two core areas of focus: Marine Debris Prevention: Collecting data and removing devastating debris worldwide while tackling policy efforts to address long-term solutions. Shark and Ray Protection: Securing protection for the world’s most vulnerable shark species. Together, we’re strengthening shark finning bans and closing policy loopholes in countries that matter most.

Our Goal

Project AWARE is all about engaging divers in education and conservation actions worldwide and at Scuba Leeds we want to ensure that Project AWARE is part of every certification that is earned. Yes, we may be a smaller dive school, landlocked in the centre of the UK but this by no means weakens our devotion and passion for making great divers and protecting our world’s oceans. At Scuba Leeds we want to ensure that all our students get the best training and education possible from our highly trained and experienced instructors to our modern teaching approach with single tank wings and long hose configurations. We want to educate our students about the importance of protecting the marine environment and hope to inspire our divers to take part in Project AWARE activities. We want to keep divers diving which is why Scuba Leeds also arrange many diving trips both in the UK and worldwide to ensure that once trained, you can continue to dive and experience some of the best sites and locations that the world has to offer. So… what are you waiting for? Come join us at Scuba Leeds to unleash your true diving potential!
